Computed Tomography (CT) with Helical Capabilities

Southwest Diagnostic Imaging Center has three GE Lightspeed CT scanners with slip ring technology which decreases patient table time and increases quality and convenience. This is commonly known as spiral or helical scanning. Two of the machines are 16-slice CT scanners featuring 3D reconstruction and Angiography. SWDIC has Advantage Windows Workstations with Cardiac Scoring and Virtual Colonoscopy. For CT exams requiring contrast, SWDIC uses non-ionic contrast media.

SWDIC offers CT screening imaging tests. The following screening test menu enables you to choose which areas you wish to have screened, either one screening test or in any combination:

CT Screening Abdomen: Can detect unsuspected abnormalities of liver, kidney, gall bladder, or adrenal glands.
CT Screening Cardiac Scoring: Detecting calcific plaque assists in determining the risk of coronary artery disease.
CT Screening Lung: Formal academic studies have documented potential value in detecting lung cancer at earlier, resectable stages.
CT Screening Pelvis: Can detect asymptomatic, unsuspected abnormalities of bowel, ovaries, prostate gland, or bladder.
Virtual Colonoscopy: A non-invasive method of screening for colon cancer and other bowel diseases.

Patients should understand that many insurance companies do not reimburse for these screening examinations. All tests will be performed without administration of intravenous or oral contrast. It is recommended that patients have a physician referral to schedule these tests. Results will be sent to the patient's doctor and directly to the patient. As with other screening tests, patients should understand that results may be inconclusive and additional tests could be required. SWDIC does not recommend such screenings as substitutes for more comprehensive exams or studies.
