To
fulfill all of the potential diagnostic radiology requirements, including fluoroscopy,
intravenous pyelography, voiding cystourethrogram, and plain films, Southwest
Diagnostic Imaging Center has five radiology rooms containing a GE Precision 500D All-Digital R/F System, GE Proteus XR/a System, and three GE Advantx Fluoroscopy Systems.
During
a myelogram, a lumbar puncture is performed with minimal discomfort. A fluoroscope
is then used to verify proper needle position. A special contrast is injected
through the needle and into the spinal column. This injected contrast helps visualize
the spinal canal and enables diagnostic images to be performed. You will be asked
to move into different positions while the x-ray pictures are taken. After
the myelogram is completed, a CT scan will be performed. Following the procedures,
you will be given special instructions to follow, and a driver will be required
for your transportation.
A SWDIC registered nurse will schedule
you for your exam. A complete medical history and comprehensive drug list
will be compiled, and you will be given pre- and post-procedure instructions.
